The holidays will look a little different this year because you’ve invested in Invisalign. Although no one will notice your clear aligners, you’ll experience a few changes. However, by this time next year, you may have a healthy, straight smile. You can still enjoy the season without adding delays to your treatment plan. Here’s your go-to holiday guide if you’re new to Invisalign.
Commit to Wearing Your Aligners
Your aligners apply continual pressure to your teeth to move them in small increments. You must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day or it can slow the movement of your teeth. Although the holidays are a busy time of the year, don’t forget to wear your Invisalign.
Keep Your Mouth Clean
Good oral hygiene is important when wearing Invisalign, especially if you’re snacking more often during the next few weeks. Brush your teeth in the morning, at night, and after eating or drinking. Floss at least once a day. Clean your aligners before putting them in your mouth using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a clear hand soap or dishwashing liquid.
Manage Any Discomfort
If you have just begun treatment with Invisalign, your mouth might be tender. Switching to a new set of aligners can also make your mouth sore. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever and eat soft foods to manage any discomfort.
Change Your Aligners On Time
You must change your aligners every 1-2 weeks as instructed by your dentist. Don’t forget to bring extra aligners with you if you’re traveling.
Carry Your Storage Case
You’ll need to remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything except water. If you’ll be attending a potluck, family dinner, or another meal away from home, bring your storage case with you. You’ll have a safe, clean spot to store your aligners to prevent misplacing them.
Maintain Your Follow-Up Appointments
As you shop for the perfect gifts and get together with family and friends, don’t skip your follow-up appointments with your dentist. They’ll monitor your progression to keep your treatment on track.
This holiday season, you are one step closer to a straight, beautiful smile. Invisalign is a big investment. Don’t let the next few weeks setback your journey. Commit to your treatment plan while celebrating the holidays.
